Mena in Los Angeles: I'm super excited that Medium is returning in just a few weeks. It's actually the only show my mom watches on TV. What can you tell us about the new season? Is it true that Anjelica Huston will have a recurring role?
I've seen the first two eps, and they're great. Anjelica works for AmeriTips, a company crime victims can hire to supplement the official police investigation. Anjelica's character, Cynthia, reaches out to Allison—now totally out at the DA's office after last season's scandal—after Al calls in a tip about a missing child. Their initial sit-down, however, does not go well. Unfortunately, with Scanlon avoiding her calls, Devalos out of town and the new DA totally unsympathetic, Cynthia is pretty much Allison's only remaining resource.

Christina in Queens, New York: I love Lee and Allison on Medium. Any news about them?
They're pretty estranged as the season begins, but those two are never apart for long...That said, Allison and Joe seem happier than ever, and Lee's still with the blonde from the mayor's office, so I expect that pairing will be strictly subtext for a long time to come...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Anjelica Huston will star in six episodes of the NBC drama "Medium."

The Academy Award winner will play Cynthia Keener, an investigator for a national firm called Ameritips who strikes an unusual bargain with Allison Dubois (Patricia Arquette).

"Medium," which earned Arquette an Emmy in 2005, returns for a fourth season in January.

Huston, who won an Oscar in 1986 for "Prizzi's Honor," recently did a multiepisode arc on Showtime's critically praised drama "Huff."

Paul Blackthorne takes on Big shots...

Paul Blackthorne may not be a household name... yet. But the British actor, who recently starred as Harry Dresden on the now-defunct Sci Fi Channel fantasy series The Dresden Files, has guest-starred on Medium, Deadwood and Monk. He’s also racked up recurring roles on 24 and ER.

Next up? The chameleon actor will play a Wall Street CEO and costar with Michael Vartan, Christopher Titus, Joshua Malina and Dylan McDermott on the new ABC drama Big Shots. “He’s what’s described as a corporate raider,” Blackthorne tells TVGuide.com. “He’s somebody that buys up companies, sells companies, just an all-around outrageous moneymaker.”

Blackthorne’s story arc kicks off on Oct. 4 for nine episodes. “He’s someone that these other guys are slightly wary of in a business sense,” reveals the actor. “It also seems our man is circling around Dylan’s ex-wife, the one he still has the hots for.”

Just don’t pin your hopes on Blackthorne sticking around for long. “I think when you’re handed these kinds of opportunities, you’ve just got to make the most of them,” he says. “I’ve enjoyed the American characters and the English characters and the goodies and the baddies. It’s nice to mix and match parts. It keeps me on my toes!”

Patricia Arquetter [Medium] to hit the big screen...

Patricia Arquette returns to the big screen in 2013. While the Medium star may still acquire more film projects in the coming months, fans will at least have something to look forward to for the far-off future. As one of the principle cast members of the movie Boyhood, she'll be featured as part of director Richard Linklater's 12 years in-the-making project.

In an attempt to leave behind a legacy of a sundry body of work than a barrage of blockbusters, Linklater, who is credited for cult classics and comedies like Dazed and Confused and The School of Rock, is working on an ambitious project that will vividly chronicle and depict the stages of life.

"It's a crazy idea, but it's been an interesting process. I'm always looking for a different way to tell a story, and that seemed like a great way to show someone growing up," Linklater revealed.

Boyhood, also known as The 12-Year Movie, tells the story of two divorced parents (Arquette and Ethan Hawke) trying to raise their precocious child (Ellar Salmon). Shot in a documentary-looking style, it aims to capture the dependence shift that occurs between an aging child and parent while mainly focusing on the bond between the mother and her son.

As the title connotes, the movie spans 12 years in production, beginning when the child is 6 and ending around the time he graduates high school. Every year, Linklater has a semi-family reunion with Hawke and the Medium actress, as well as a small skeleton crew to shoot scenes that will capture and explore adolescence.

"Every year, I get together with the actors and we film a little bit. It's about a kid growing up — that's the gist of it," Linklater said. "I haven't even put the math to it yet. I just know that we have fun every year getting together and doing this."

Although this is the first of its kind for Arquette, this isn't her first time to work with Linklater. In 2006, she has been cast in the Linklater's movie Fast Food Nation, which also features costar Hawke.

Medium creator Glenn Gordon Caron talked about the upcoming season, “We’re negotiating to bring in a big secret guest star, can’t tell you who just yet, but for now it’s female, someone really unexpected, who will have unexpected ramifications on the world our people live in. What else? We’re gonna do this thing where we write an episode on the Web with the fans, which is gonna be really cool. I’ve been wanting to do this episode which is completely sung, and I think we may get to do it this year. And we’re really trying to do another 3-D episode, but all 3-D this time.”

Joe Dubois...

There is no doubt in anyone's mind that the NBC show Medium is centered around the Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette) character, who is, of course, the "Medium" that the show's title refers to. But try to imagine Medium without the presence of her husband Joe. It's tough to do. Joe, played fantastically by Jake Weber, has redefined the role of TV "background husband." His unflagging support of and belief in Allison is a key contributing factor to the audience's support and belief in her. He is the everyman – the voice of reason and logic when things are teetering on the ledge of the freak-a-deak abyss. When Allison wakes up in the middle of the night from her most recent psych-adelic trip in dreamscape and immediately wants to call D.A. Devalos, it is Joe who asks: "Is this really something that can't wait until morning?" Even though it never really can wait, it is still the logical question to ask.

His place in the DuBois family is well established – he is the cornerstone. He is the family's firm foundation. He is the calm within the psychic storm. While Allison is gallivanting around Phoenix looking at corpses and talking to dead people, Joe is taking the kids to school…again. This is why the latter half of Season 3 packed a surprisingly more emotional wallop to the longtime Medium fans who have always relied on Joe to be the safe port in Allison's storm. Instead, Joe is the one thrust into a living nightmare in "Joe Day Afternoon," flipping the DuBois status quo on its ear. As fantastic as that episode was, it became retroactively fabulous when Joe wasn't "back to normal" by the next episode; thus breaking another non-serialized television rule. His symbiotic relationship with Allison was affected, the kids were worried about him for a change, and things deteriorated to the point that he eventually lost his job in the Season Finale!

This is not the Joe we know and trust; but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Throwing Joe into that hostage situation, and not letting him just "get over it" so easily, has given us added dimensions to a character that had become almost pigeon-holed by his steadfast loyalty and dependability. It is refreshing, and it makes the extended wait that much more difficult to bear.
